2、teeoftheNinthNationalPeople'sCongressonApril28,2001）ChapterIGeneralProvisionsArticle1ThisLawistheFundamentalcodegoverningmarriageandfamilyrelations.Article2Amarriagesystembasedonthefreechoiceofpartners,onmonogamyandonequalitybetweenmanandwomanshallbeapplied.Thelawfulrightsandi

3、nterestsofwomen,childrenandoldpeopleshallbeprotected.Familyplanningshallbepractised.Article3Marriageuponarbitrarydecisionbyanythirdparty,mercenarymarriageandanyotheractsofinterferenceinthefreedomofmarriageshallbeprohibited.Theexactionofmoneyorgiftsinconnectionwithmarriageshall

4、beprohibited.Bigamyshallbeprohibited.Cohabitationofamarriedpersonwithanythirdpartyshallbeprohibited.Domesticviolenceshallbeprohibited.Withinthefamilymaltreatmentanddesertionofonefamilymemberbyanothershallbeprohibited.Article4Husbandandwifeshallbefaithfultoandrespecteachother.W

5、ithinthefamilyfamilymembersshallrespecttheoldandcherishtheyoung,helponeanother,andmaintainequal,harmoniousandcivilizedmarriageandfamilyrelations.ChapterIIMarriageContractArticle5Marriagemustbybaseduponthecompletewillingnessofbothmanandwoman.Neitherpartymayusecompulsionontheoth

6、erpartyandnothirdpartymayinterfere.Article6Nomarriagemaybecontractedbeforethemanhasreached22yearsofageandthewoman20yearsofage.Latemarriageandlatechildbirthshallbeencouraged.Article7Nomarriagemaybecontractedunderanyofthefollowingcircumstances:(1)ifthemanandthewomanarelinealrela

7、tivesbyblood,orcollateralrelativesbyblooduptothethirddegreeofkinship;and(2)ifthemanorthewomanissufferingfromanydisease,whichisregardedbymedicalscienceasrenderingapersonunfitformarriage.Article8Boththemanandthewomandesiringtocontractamarriageshallregisterinpersonwiththemarriage
