5、tolimitortocontrolthehumidityoftheconfinedwaste).Tocoverwithanefficientcapbarrierawastedisposalisakeyissue.InapreviousKeynoteLecture(Gourc,2004),theglobalproblemofstabilityofgeosyntheticscompositesystemsusedascapbarriersonsteepslopesoflandfillswereconsidered(Gourcetal,2008).InthepresentLecture,t

6、hebehaviorofthecap(andmainlythesealingliner)inthecentralareaofalandfillisconsidered.Itisdemonstratedthatanin-depthknowledgeofthewastebehaviorisrequiredbeforetooptimizetheconceptoftheliner.Geosyntheticssolutionsareveryoftenbetterthanminerallayers;inmanycasesthesegeosyntheticssolutionshavealreadyp
