1、THEUNIVERSITYOFMIAMIUPWARDBOUNDSCHOLARSPROGRAMTheUniversityofMiamiUpwardBoundProgramisdesignedtoassiststudentswithacademicpotentialwhoneedadditionalacademicsupportandmotivationtosucceedinhighschoolandlater,incollege.Weprovideanon-goingprogramofacademicandcounselingactivities.Studen
2、tsmayparticipateintheprogramfromthetimetheyareenrolleduntiltheygraduatefromhighschool.FundedbytheUnitedStatesDepartmentofEducationFederalTRIOProgramandsponsoredbytheUniversityofMiamiSchoolofEducation,UpwardBoundhasexistedontheUM’scampussincefiscalyear1967-68.Theprogramhasprovidedse
3、rviceandhaspositivelyimpactedmorethan2,000students,whohaveenrolledin,graduatedorarecurrentlyattendingcollegesanduniversitiesalloverthecountry.UpwardBoundisfundedtoserveninety-four(94)studentsinMiamiDadeCounty.ACADEMICYEARPROGRAMDuringtheacademicyear,asupportiveinstructionalprogrami
4、ntheareasofMath(AlgebraI–Calculus),English,Science,SAT(Verbal/Math),SocialStudies,ForeignLanguageandFCATPreparationisofferedweeklyonTuesdaysandmonthlySaturdayAcademysessions.Tutorialassistanceinthesesacademicsubjectsisprovidedtoaidthestudentsinmeetingthedemandsoftheirhighschoolcurr
5、iculum.SUMMERPROGRAMAsix-weeksummerresidentialprogramisalsoofferedtoprogramparticipantswhodemonstratetheircommitmenttotheprogramduringtheacademicyear.Thiscomponentoftheprogramisdesignedtosimulateacollege-goingexperience,thesummerprogramfocusesonacademic,counseling,college,careerand
6、recreationalactivities.Studentsenrollinacademicclassesmentionedabovebasedontheirgradelevelandhighschoolcurriculum.Studentsmayreceiveoneelectivecreditforattendanceandparticipationintheseclasses.Studentswillbeprovidedwithanopportunitytofurtherdevelopacademicallybyenrollinginclassessu
7、chascomputertechnology,scholarsbowl,creativewriting,spellingbeeanddebate.Coursesthatappealtostudent’screativeinterestarealsoprovided;theyinclude:journalism,drama,dance,art,chorusandcomputertechnology.Additionally,willalsoenrollinsports/recreationalactivities;theyinclude:basketball,
