3、,leadbythegiantBouyguesconglomerateofFrance,hassigneda$607milliondesign-buildcontractwithBouyguesPublicsTrauvaux,theheavycivilconstructiondivisionoftheconglomerate,forconstructionofthe3,900ft(1.1km)longtwintube,fourlanetunnelandanorderisplacedwithHerrenknechtfora42ft(12.8m

5、rtheavyporttrafficawayfromthecitystreetsofMiamianddirectitinsteadthroughthetunnelandviaawideningoftheMacArthurCausewayandbridgefromWatsonIslandtointerstatehighwayI-395.MobilisationoftheprojectwillcontinuetowardsarrivalnextspringoftheHerrenknechtEPBMfromtheSchwanaufactoryin
6、Germany.Onceassembled,themachinewillprogressfromaworksiteonWatsonIslandandpass120ft(36.5m)belowtheseasurfacetocompleteeach1.2kmlong,two-lanetunnel.UnderseatunnellinktoMiamiPortonDodgeIslandAttherecentgroundbreakingceremony,Miami-DadeCountyMayorCarlosAlvarezwasjoinedbyelect
7、edState,CountyandCityofficialsaswellasrepresentativesofFlorida'sDepartmentofTransportation,businessandcommunityleaders,andMATmanagerstoconfirmsupportofthe$1.3billionproject.Inalastditchefforttosavetheproject,FloridaStategovernmentagreedtopay50%ofthecapitalcosttogetherwitha
