4、consumer-directedprogramadministeredthroughtheDepartmentofHumanServices,DivisionofDisabilityServices.Establishedin1985,PASPprovidesapersonalassistanttohelpwithactivitiesofdailylivingandothertasksthathelptheconsumerachieverealindependenceandself-sufficiency.Itisbasedontheprincipl

5、ethatindividualswithdisabilitiesknowbestwhatservicesandsupportstheyneed.ThegoalofPASPistomakeitpossibleforpersonswithpermanent,physicaldisabilitiestoregaintheirfreedom,self-esteemandbecomefunctionalmembersoftheworkforceandcommunity.PASPallowstheindividualtocontrolthedesignanddel

6、iveryoftheirownpersonalcareservices.Currently529NewJerseyresidentswithpermanentphysicaldisabilitiesparticipateinPASP.Itallowsthemtoreceiveamaximumofupto40hoursofserviceperweekinordertomaintaintheirindependence,returntoworkorschoolandbeactiveinthecommunity.Participantsdevelopthes

7、killsnecessarytomanagetheirowndailyactivitiesandsupervisetheirpersonalassistants.PASPdiffersvastlyfrommedical-modelprogramsbecauseitisasocial-modelprogramanddoesnotrequiretheindividualtobehomeboundinordertoreceiveservices.PASPpermitsthepersonalassistanttodrivetheconsumer’svehicl
