4、al,componentorstructurewhichenablesittomaintainitsshape,size,oranydimension.Allcomponentsandstructureshavedimensionalstabilityrequirements,butoftenstrengthproperties(e.g.tensilestrengthorimpactstrength)orlifetime(e.g.fatiguelife)maybemoreimportant.Wefirstreviewrelevantmaterialsandtheirdi
5、mensionalresponsetochangesinloadsorstressandthentheirresponsetoenvironmentalchanges,namelytemperature,chemical,radiationandelectromagneticfieldsandtime(1).Amorecomplexsituationariseswhenweconsiderthattheeffectofcombinedloadsandtheirinteractions,includingcausesandeffectsofinternaldamagesu
