3、mpics,haslaunchedanationwidecampaigntoimproveairandwater,replacingdirtyfuelswithcleaner-burningnaturalgas.InSouthKorea,thegovernmenthasreplacedafifthofthecountry'sdiesel-fueledbuseswithvehiclesthatrunoncompressednaturalgas.InNewDelhi,India,alawmandatesCNGpropelledbusesandotherve

4、hiclesinordertocurbpollution.CitieslikeWashington,NewYork,Madrid,Beijing,LosAngeles,etchaveintroducedCNGbusesintheirpublictransportationsystemtocurbpollutionandtocomplywithalternativefuelpolicies.AstudypublishedbyTheLancetinyear2000concludedthatairpollutioninFrance,AustriaandSwi

5、tzerlandisresponsibleformorethan40,000deathsannuallyinthesecountries.Thepublicationsayshalfofthesedeathsareduetovehicleemissions.TheRegulatoryAgenciesfromdevelopedanddevelopingcountriesingeneraldonotregulateToxicAirContaminants(TACs)comingfromthevehicleemissionsandthereforetheir

6、statisticsdonotgiveaspecificideaoftheproblemandonlyestimationsareknown.ButwithoutdoubtairpollutionandToxicAirContaminantsinamajordegreeareasignificantfactorshapingpublichealth.Overthepast10yearsmanyepidemiologicalstudiesworldwidehavemeasuredincreasesinmortalityandmorbidityassoci
