1、ProgressionthroughthenewSpecialtyDoctorandAssociateSpecialistGradesGuidancefromtheWelshSASReferenceGroupThisdocumentsetsoutguidanceforprogressionthroughthenewSpecialtyDoctorandAssociateSpecialistgrades,particularlyprogressionthroughThresholdOneandThresholdTwoandof
2、ferssuggestionsonhowtheycanbeevidenced.Wesuggestthatyouconsiderthisguidancealongsideotherjobplanningguidance(aslistedinappendix1).Therearethreeformsofprogressionwithinthegrades:1.Incrementalpayprogression,forwhichthedoctorwillhavesatisfiedthecriteriasetoutinparagr
3、aph2.1below.2.Progressionthroughthresholdone,forwhichthedoctorwillhavesatisfiedthecriteriasetoutinparagraph2.2belowand3.progressionthroughthresholdtwo,forwhichthespecialtydoctorwillhavesatisfiedthecriteriasetoutinparagraph2.3below,thoseonthenewassociatespecialistc
4、ontractshouldrefertoparagraph2.5.1.PRINCIPLESFORPROGRESSIONTheprinciplesforprogression/movementthroughthegradearethat:·theprocessforprogressionshouldbefairandclearandneithertheprocessnorthegatheringanddemonstratingofevidenceshouldbeonerous·theevidencerequiredmustb
5、easobjectiveaspossible.·thereshouldbe‘nosurprises’atanyreview;goodemploymentpracticeistoprovideemployeeswithfeedbackonacontinuingbasis.Hencethewayinwhichrequirementswillbeevidencedshouldbeagreedwellinadvanceofathresholdandprogresstowardsoutcomesandthresholdprogres
