1、InterculturalCommunicationinLettersofRecommendationAbstract:Theletterofrecommendation(LR)asameanstocommunicateacrossdifferentculturesforthepurposeofapplyingforenteringauniversitycanbeproblematic.Usingcontrastiverhetoricanalyticframework,thispapercomparesLRswrittenbyChineseandEnglishn

2、ativespeakerprofessionals.DiscussionofculturallysituatedinterpretationsoftheLRsisbasedoninterviewswithuniversityprofessorswhohavebeenontheadmissioncommittee.ThefindingsshowsimilaritiesinmacrodiscoursestructurebutdifferencesindiscoursecontentbetweentheLRs,whichsuggestthatsuccessfulint

5、Englishnativespeaker(ENS)readersandENNSwriters.However,"accordingtomanyeducatorsandemployers,toofewlettersofrecommendationtellrecipientswhattheyreallyneedtoknowaboutacandidate"(Palmer,1983,p.1).Althoughthewriters’identificationisnotspecifiedhere,wecanassumethatICbetweentheENNSwritero
