3、linaryEngineeringDesignConferencePage71.ABSTRACTThispaperwilloutlinethedesign,development,andresultsoftwomajoraspectsofaSoftwareDefinedRadio(SDR).TheyaretheRFunit,whichisthemeansoftransmittingwirelessdata,andtheForwardErrorCorrection(FEC)codingwhichs

4、uppliesacodinggaintothesystem,andasimulationoftheentireSDR.ItwillbeshownthattheimplementationoftheForwardErrorCorrectionwassuccessfulandthatRFunitwasasuccess.2.INTRODUCTIONWiththeincreasingneedforflexibility,SoftwareDefinedRadios(SDRs)arebecomingades

5、irablesolutiontomanycurrentcommunicationsystemproblems.SDRsexpandthedigitalportionoftheradioasclosetotheantennaaspossibletoprovidemaximumflexibility.Withmoreoftheradioprogrammable,radiocharacteristicssuchasmodulationschemes,coding,etc,canbechangedacc

6、ordingtouserneeds,theRFenvironmentoranyotherrequirementsthatmaybeplacedonthesystem.OnespecificapplicationoftheSDR’sflexibilityisaradiothatsensestheRFenvironmentandchangesitsownconfigurationinrealtimetoadapttothechangingconditions.Thisrequiresthedevel

7、opmentofavarietyofcodingschemes,modulationschemesandotherbasebandtechniquestoplaceinthe“bank”oftoolstousetoadapttotheenvironment.ThispaperpresentstheimplementationoftheConvolutionalForwardErrorCorrection(FEC)codingschemeforapre-existingbasebandproces
