3、thecompletenucleotidesequenceofthecytochromebgene(citb)andafragmentfromsubunit2ofcytochromeoxidasegene(cox2).Thephylogeneticutilityofmitochondrialgeneshasbeenstudiedatdifferenttaxonomiclevelsamongfishtaxa.WesequencedninecyprinidsspeciesfromRomania.Bootstrapanalysisdistingushedtwopri
4、ncipallineagesincyprinidsfamilybothinneighbour-joiningtreebasedonsequencedcox2geneandinneighbour-joiningtreebasedonsequencedcitbgene:CyprinineandLeuciscine,withCyprinineatthebasalposition.FortheLeuciscinegroupHypophthalmichthysmolitrixandArischthysnobiliswerefoundtobelongtothesamesu
5、bfamilyHypophthalmichthyinaebasedonbothcox2sequences.Keywords:cyprinids,phylogeny,mitochondrialDNA,citbgene,cox2geneIntroductionTheCyprinidaefamilyisanexcellentgroupforbiologicalstudiesconsistingof2010speciesdistributedacross210generainalargevarietyofhabitats.InsouthernEurope,cyprin
6、idsareextremelyrichinnumberofendemicspecies(about77species),especiallywhencomparedwiththerelativelyuniformcyprinidfaunaofcentralandnorthernEurope[11].Despitenumerouspublicationsconcerningthespeciesclassificationwithinthisfamily,therelationshipsamongthemainlineagesofcyprinidsstillrem
7、ainunclear,andeventhemonophylyofthewholefamilyissometimesindoubt[8].Traditionally,cyprinidsweregroupedasdifferentsubfamiliesaccordingtotheirmorphologicalcharacters[3;2].Dependingontheauthors,thenumberofsubfamilieswasverydifferent.Tounderstandthephylogeneticrelationshipsamongrepresen
