2、lHaarder,amemberofDenmark’sLiberalParty,causedacommotion.Hewentoutonalimbastheonlyoneoftheassembledministerswhothoughttotalmarketisationwasnotonlythemostlikelybutalsothemostdesirablefutureforuniversityresearchandeducation.AmongthosepresentwastheleaderofDenmark’

3、slargestassociationforuniversityemployees(DanskMagisterforening)wholaterreportedtotheDanishmediathatpeoplearoundherwerewhisperingaboutthe‘Danishdisease’duringthesession(Stage2006).WhattheymeantwasthattheDanishgovernmentpredictablyoptsforthemostextremeversionsof

4、currentinternationalagendasforuniversityreform.WhatwewouldliketoshowinthischapteristhatthecommotioncreatedbytheDanishMinisterwasalsoaboutsomethingelse.ThedisquietwascausedbyhisdisregardingthestylethroughwhichtheagendaforuniversityreformhadbeenmovingforwardinEur

5、ope.FollowingHall(2003)wecallthisstylethedouble-shuffle:acontinuousdancebetweenavisionoftheuniversitymodelledonthecorporateworldandonebasedonthesector’straditionalorganisation.WewerestudyingwhatwentonatthisMinisterialMeetingaspartofaresearchprojectonuniversityr

6、eforminDenmark.Theproject‘NewManagement,NewIdentities?DanishUniversityReforminanInternationalPerspective’ranfrom2004to2008,fundedbytheDanishResearchCouncil.OtherteammemberswereGrittB.NielsenandJohnB.KrejsleroftheDanishSchoolofEducation,AarhusUniversityandStephe
