13、chievedconsiderablevaluefromtheirBigDatainitiatives.Morethan80%ofthemsaytheirBigDatainvestmentshavebeensuccessful,andalmosthalfsaytheirorganizationscanmeasurethebenefitsfromtheirprojects.Suchoptimismisbynomeansfoundforallbusinessinvestments;onerecentstud
14、ybyananalystfirm,forexample,foundthat6outof10customersofoneERPvendorwouldn’tbuyfromthesamecompanyagain,anddidn’tfeeltheyhadachievedreturnontheirinvestment.WhyaretheseexecutivessopositiveaboutBigData?Theyreportavarietyofpositiveoutcomes,includingcostreduc
15、tion,establishmentofadata-drivenculture,andvariousbenefitsrelatedtoinnovation,newproductsandservices,andindustrydisruption.Only1.6%ofrespondentsdeemedtheirBigDatainitiativesfailures,whichisanimpressivelylownumber.Theparticipantsinthissurveyareseniorbusin
16、essandtechnologyexecutivesrepresentingmanyoftheworld’slargestandmostsophisticatedcompanies.Manycomefromfinancialservices,whichisoneofthemostaggressivesectorsforbusinessinvestmentandtechnologyadoption.Theirsophisticationandbellwetherstatussuggeststhatwewi
17、llsoonseeagrowingnumberoffirmsacrosstheprivateandpublicsectors—aswellasmid-sizeandsmallercompanies—alsoderivingsubstantivevaluefromBigDatawork.Ifthereisanysoberingtrendintheseresults,itliesintheapparentdifficultyoforganizationalandculturalchangearoundBig
