3、ificantlyinfluencethefatiguestrengthofcoatedmaterials.Itiswellknownthatchromiumplatingisthemostusedelectrodepositedcoatingforimportantindustrialapplications.However,pressuretoidentifyalternativesortoimprovethechromiumelectroplatingprocesshaveincreasedinrecentyears,relatedtothereductioninfatiguestrengt
4、hofthebasematerialandtoenvironmentalrequirements.Thehighefficiencyandfluoridefreehardchromiumelectroplating(herecalledaccelerated)isanimprovementtotheconventionalprocess.OneenvironmentallysaferandcleaneralternativetohardchromiumplatingistungstencarbidethermalspraycoatingappliedbytheHighVelocityOxy-Fue
5、l(HVOF)process.Toincreasethefatiguestrengthofchromiumplatedmaterials,coatingthicknessandmicrocracksdensityareimportantparameterstobecontrolled.Tech-niquesascompressiveresidualstressesinducedbyshotpeeningandmultilayers,arealsoused.TheaimofthisstudywastoanalysetheeffectsonAISI4340steel,intherotatingbe
6、ndingfatiguebehaviour,ofthe:tungstencarbidethermalspraycoatingappliedbyHP/HVOFprocess;chemicalnickelunderplate,andshotpeeningprocessappliedbeforecoatingdeposition,incomparisontohardchromiumelectroplatings.Rotatingbendingfatiguetestresultsindicatebetterperformancefortheconventionalhardchromiumplating
7、inrelationtotheacceleratedhardchromiumelectroplating.Tungstencarbidethermalspraycoatingandacceleratedhardchromiumplateovernickelresultedinhigherfatiguestrengthwhencomparedtosamplesconventionaloraccele
