4、hebestcomparableacquisitionstypicallyinvolvecompaniessimilartothetargetonafun-damentallevel(i.e.,sharingkeybusinessandfinancialcharacteristicssuchasthoseoutlinedinChapter1,seeExhibit1.3).Aswithtradingcomps,itisoftenchallengingtoobtainarobustuniverseoftrulycomparab
5、leacquisitions.Thisexercisemaydemandsomecreativityandperseveranceonthepartofthebanker.Forexample,itisnotuncommontoconsidertransactionsinvolvingcompaniesindifferent,butrelated,sectorsthatmaysharesimilarendmarkets,distributionchannels,orfinancialprofiles.Asageneralru
6、le,themostrecenttransactions(i.e.,thosethathaveoccurredwithintheprevioustwotothreeyears)arethemostrelevantastheylikelytookplaceundersimilarmarketconditionstothecontemplatedtransaction.Insomecases,however,oldertransactionsmaybeappropriatetoevaluateiftheyoccurreddu
