2、nttoolinseveraldifferentfieldsofmedicalresearchforearlydiseasedetection,forassessmentofresponsetotreatmentandforunravellingunderlyingpathophysiologicalmechanisms.Althoughthemajorityofpatientswithhypertensionaretreatedinasimilarmanner,thecausesunderlyingthecondi
3、tionarediverse,andoftenpoorlyunderstood.Geneticstudieshaveimplicatedseveraldifferentcandidategenes,butitmaybethatexaminationofthe‘downstream’productsofgenes,theproteins,willhelptoimproveunderstandingofthelinkbetweentheenvironmentalandgeneticeffectsthatcontribu
4、tetowardsdevelopmentofhypertension.Proteomicstudiescanbeperformedquicklyandreliablyonseveraldifferentsampletypesincludingplasmaandurine,requiringminimalpre-testpreparation.Inthisreview,wewillcomparethedifferentanalyticalplatformsandtechnicalissuesinvolvedinpro
5、teomicanalysis.Wewilldiscussexistingstudiesofproteomicsinhypertension,aswellasrelatedconditionssuchasrenaldisease,pre-eclampsiaandcoronaryarterydisease.Wewillalsoexplorepotentialfutureapplicationsofproteomics-basedresearch,whichmayultimatelyleadtoimprovedpopul
