2、icareas,only100kmsouthoftheArcticCircle.The538m-longbridgespansSundet,andwhenitiscompletewillprovideaferry-freeroadconnectionbetweenSundoyaandthemainland.Itislocatedsome35kmwestofthecityofMosjoen,closetohighway78betweenMosjoenandSandnessjoen.Itwillbethesecondlargebridgeprojectconne
3、ctingAlstenoyatothemainland,comingmorethan12yearsaftertheHelgelandBridgewasopened.Theregionisnostrangertoworld-recordscalebridges?theHelgelandBridge's425mlongmainspanwasthelongestcable-stayedspanintheworldwhenitopenedin1992.SundoyaBridgeisdividedintothreespans;ithasamainspanof298ma
4、ndtwosidespansof120m.Themainspanwillbethesecondlongestspanintheworldforacontinuouspost-tensionedcastinplaceboxsectionconcretebridge.Intermsofitsdesign,consultantDrIngAas-JakobsenhasfollowedasimilarapproachtothattakenfortheRaftsundetBridge,openedin1998,towhichtheSundoyaBridgewillalm
5、ostbeatwin.Thetwobridgeshaveidenticalmainspans,butRaftsundethasfourspansasopposedtoSundoya'sthree.ContractorASAnlegg,whichispartofthejointventurebuildingSundoya,wasalsothecontractorontheRaftsundetBridge,andarchitectBoarchArkitekterhasalsoworkedonthetwoschemes.InJanuary2001thejointv
6、enturecompanyAFSundoybruawonthecontractfromclientStatensVegvesentobuildtheSundoyaBridge.ThisjointventureconsistedofthecontractorsReinertsenAnleggandNCCConstruction.Highperformanceconcreteiscentraltothedesignofthebridge?bothnormalweightHPCandlightweightHPC.Normalweightconcrete,atapp
7、roximately2500kg/m3,isusedforthe120msidespans,whilelightweightconcrete,whichweighsinatabout1970kg/m3,isusedforconstructionofthe298mmainspan.Thisenablesconstructiontoproceedusingthebalancedcantilevermethod.LocalrockfromNorwayisusedastheaggregateforthenormalweightconcrete,butthelight
