4、ve,thatcomputerinformationcanberepresentedthroughaudioand/orvideo,inadditiontotext,image,graphicsandanimation.Theintegrationofthesemediaintothecomputerprovidesadditionalpossibilitiesfortheuseofcomputationalpowercurrentlyavailable(e.g.,forinteractivepresentationofhugeamountsofinformati
5、on).Furthermore,thesedatacanbetransmittedthoughcomputerandtelecommunicationnetworks,whichimpliesapplicationsintheareasofinformationdistributionandcooperativework.Multimediaprovidesthepossibilityforaspectrumofnewapplications,manyofwhichareinplacetoday.Amultimediasystemdistinguishesitse
6、lffromothersystemsthroughseveralproperties.Weelaborateonthemostimportantpropertiessuchascombinationofthemedia,media-independence,computercontrolandintegration.Noteveryarbitrarycombinationofmediajustifiestheusageofthetermmultimedia.Asimpletextprocessingprogramwithincorporatedimagesisof
