3、atetheoptimalparametersfortheserecordingsintheratmediannerve,wedissociatedthenerveusingdifferentmethodsandcompoundnerveactionpotentialswereorthodromicallyorantidromicallyrecordedwithdifferentelectrodespacings.Compoundnerveactionpotentialscouldbeconsistentlyrecordedusingamethodinwhichthemid
4、dlepartofthemediannervewasintact,withbothendsdissociatedfromthesurroundingfasciaandagroundwireinsertedintothemuscleclosetotheintactpart.Whenthedistancebetweentwostimulatingelectrodetipswasincreased,thethresholdandsupramaximalstimulatingintensityofcompoundnerveactionpotentialsweregraduallyd
5、ecreased,buttheamplitudewasnotchangedsignificantly.Whenthedistancebetweentworecordingelectrodetipswasincreased,theamplitudewasgraduallyincreased,butthethresholdandsupramaximalstimulatingintensityexhibitednosignificantchange.Differentdistancesbetweenrecordingandstimulatingsitesdidnotproduce
6、significanteffectsontheaforementionedparameters.Adistanceof5mmbetween recordingandstimulatingelectrodesandadistanceof10mmbetweenrecordingandstimulatingsiteswerefoundtobeoptimalforcompoundnerveactionpotentialrecordingintheratmediannerve.Inaddition,theorthodromiccompoundactionpotential,witha
