1、HowwedidthisPewResearchCenterconductedthisstudytounderstandAmericanvoters’attitudestowardandengagementwiththe2020presidentialelectionandcampaigns.Forthisanalysis,wesurveyedU.S.adultsonlineandbytelephone.Wesurveyed11,001U.S.adultsonline–including7,485registeredvoters–inJuly
2、andAugust2020.EveryonewhotookpartisamemberofPewResearchCenter’sAmericanTrendsPanel(ATP),anonlinesurveypanelthatisrecruitedthroughnational,randomsamplingofresidentialaddresses.ThiswaynearlyallU.S.adultshaveachanceofselection.ThesurveyisweightedtoberepresentativeoftheU.S.adu
3、ltpopulationbygender,race,ethnicity,partisanaffiliation,educationandothercategories.ReadmoreabouttheATP’smethodology.Wealsosurveyed1,750U.S.adultsbytelephone–including1,455registeredvoters–inJulyandAugust2020.ThesurveyswereconductedinbothEnglishandSpanishoverthephoneundert
4、hedirectionofAbtAssociates.Respondentstothissurveywererandomlyselectedviaacombinationoflandlineandcellphonerandom-digit-dialsamples.Toensurethattheresultsofthissurveyreflectabalancedcross-sectionofthenation,thedataareweightedtomatchtheU.S.adultpopulationbygender,age,educat
5、ion,raceandethnicityandothercategories.Herearethequestionsusedforthereport,alongwithresponses,anditsmethodology.AsDemocratsandRepublicanspreparefortheirpartyconventions,anewnationalsurveyfindshighvoterengagementwiththepresidentialcampaign–andarecordsharesayingit“reallymatt
6、ers”whowinsinNovemberwhenitcomestomakingprogressonimportantnationalissues.Yetthecoronavirusoutbreakcontinuestocastalargeshadowoverthe2020presidentialelection.JusthalfofU.S.registeredvoters(50%)sayitwillbeveryorsomewhateasytovoteintheupcomingelections,whileaboutthesameshare
7、(49%)expectstohavedifficultiescastingaballot.ThatisasubstantialchangesinceOctober2018,shortlybeforethatyear’smidtermelections,when85%ofregisteredvoterssaiditwouldbeeasyt0vote.VoterswhosupportDonaldTrumparefarmorelikelythanthosewhosupportJoeBidentosayitwillbeeasytovotethisy
