3、ngEastAfricannationsbuildtheircapacitytopreservenatural,culturalandhistoricsitesacrosstheregion.RepresentativesfromRwanda,Kenya,Uganda,Tanzania,Ethiopia,Eritrea,DjiboutiandtheSeychellesattendedtheeventinJuba.UNESCOhashelpedpreservesomeoftheworld’smos
4、tfamoussites,includingEgypt’sPyramidsofGiza,TheGreatWallofChina,MountKenyaNationalParkandtheNubianPyramidsatMeroeinSudan.SouthSudan’sUndersecretaryforCulture,JokMadutJok,willnowbecataloguingitsimportantsites.“Byputtingsomeofourmostvaluablesitesonthis
5、listwehopethattheWorldCommunity;thedonorCountries,theNGOsthatworkinconservationwillhelpassistustoprotectandmaintainandconservetheseimportantsitessuchasthewildlifeparksandculturalsitessuchasshrines,”Joksaid.Before,Southernersdidnothavethemeanstopreser
6、vesuchplacesduringmorethan20yearsofcivilwarwithSudan.TheSudanesegovernmentroutinelydeniedSouthSudanthepoliticalpowerandeconomicsupportneededtoestablishsuchsites.ManySouthSudanesemaynotevenbeawareoftheircountry’shistoricandnaturalsites.Millionswerefor
7、cedtofleetoneighboringcountriesduringthewar,andthosethatstayedhadlittleopportunitytolearnaboutSouthSudanhistoryandculture.UndersecretaryJoksaidmanyplacesshouldbepreserved.“Therearewhatwerefertoastheintangibleculturewhichistheculturalpracticesofthepeo
