3、hcollegeisacorporatebodydistinctfromtheuniversityandisgovernedbyitsownheadandfellows.Mostfellowsarecollegeinstructorscalledtutors,andtherestareuniversityprofessorsandlecturers.Eachcollegemanagesitsownbuildingsandproperty,electsitsownfellows,andselectsandadmitsitsownundergraduatestudents
4、.Theuniversityprovidessomelibraries,laboratories,andotherfacilities,butthecollegestakeprimaryresponsibilityfortheteachingandwell-beingoftheirstudents. EachstudentatOxfordisassignedtoatutor,whosupervisesthestudent'sprogramofstudy,primarilythroughtutorials.Tutorialsareweeklymeetingsofone
5、ortwostudentswiththeirtutor.Studentsmayseeothertutorsforspecializedinstruction.Theymayalsoattendlecturesgivenbyuniversityteachers.Studentschoosewhichlecturestoattendonthebasisoftheirownspecialinterestsandontheadviceoftheirtutors. Theuniversity,nottheindividualcolleges,grantsdegrees.The
6、firstdegreeintheartsorsciencesistheBachelorofArtswithhonors.Oxfordalsograntshigherdegrees,diplomas,andcertificatesinawidevarietyofsubjects. TheRhodesscholarshipprogramenablesstudentsfromtheUnitedStates,Canada,andmanyothernationstostudyatOxfordforaminimumoftwoyears.TheBritishgovernmentg
7、rantsMarshallscholarshipstocitizensoftheUnitedStatesforstudyatOxfordandotheruniversitiesthatarelocatedinBritain. Thecompetitionforscholarshipsandgrantsis,however,extremelystrongandthereareusuallystrictrequirements.Studentsshouldcheckcarefullythattheyareeligibletoapplyforaparti
