3、ingofPMOsandofthedynamicrelationshipbetweenprojectmanagementandtheorganisationalcontext.TheaimisalsotointegratetheexaminationofPMOsasanorganisationalinnovationintothemainstreamofresearchontheplaceofprojectmanagementinorganisationsandmorewidelytothe‘‘rethinkingofprojectmanagement.

4、”1.IntroductionQuiteoftenoverthelastdecade,theobservationhasbeenmadethatorganisationsarefacinganewcontextcharacterizedbyincreasedcompetition,increasedratesofproduct,serviceandprocessinnovationandanincreasingemphasisontimetomarket.Organisationshaverespondedtothesechallengesbydevel

5、opingnew,moreflexibleorganisationalforms[1]inwhichprojectsarebothmorenumerousandmorestrategicallyimportant[2].Aspartoftheresponsetothesenewchallengesandaspartofthemovementtoincreaseboththenumberandthestrategicimportanceofprojectsmanyorganisationshaveimplementedaneworganisationale

6、ntitythemostcommonnameforwhichistheprojectmanagementofficeorPMO.ThePMOhasbeenaddressedextensivelyintheprofessionalliterature[3–5].However,therehasbeenverylittletheoreticalorempiricalresearchonthetopic.Inaddition,thisorganisationalinnovationhasnotbeenexaminedextensivelywithintheli
