3、ontradictionsinsomecases.Thestructureofthelaminarincompressibleflowandtheperformanceofanumberofsealsofvariousshapesforbothstationaryandrotatingconditionsareinvestigatedinthispaper.Thetheoreticaltreatmentisbasedontheformulationofthree-dimensionalaxisymmetricmomentumandcontinuityequationsforl

4、abyrinthshapeshavingsmallheighttoradiusratioasisalwaysthecaseinturbomachinery,rotodynamicpumpsandmanyhydraulicdevices.Itisfoundinthispaperthatshaftrotationisonlybeneficialfortheup-the-stepseal,hasnoeffectongroovedshaftandgroovedcasingsealsandhasanadverseeffectonthedown-the-stepseal.Itisalso
