1、SituatedatthefoodofLingyinMountain,asidefromtheWestLake,LingyinTemple(TempleofInspiredSeclusion)isoneofthetenmostfamousancientBuddhisttemplesinChina.FirstbuiltbyanIndianmonkHuiliin326ADduringtheEasternJindynasty(317-420AD),thetemplewasnamedLingyinTemple(TempleofInspiredSeclusion)foritsenviron
2、mentisverybeautifulandsereneandsuitablefor"godsrestinseclusion".Initsprime,thistemple,containingover1300roomsand3000monks,usedtobealargemonasterywithascaleyoujustimagine.Duetowarandcalamity,thetemplehasexperiencedabout1700yearsofrepeatedcirclesofprosperityanddeclineuntilitslastrestorationinth
3、eQingdynasty(1644-1911).Onthecompound'scentralaxlestandHallofHeavenlyKings,DaxiongbaodianHall(PreciousHalloftheGreatHero),PharmaceuticalMasterHallandGreatMercyHall.HallofHeavenlyKingsItisthefirsthallafterenteringthetemple.Atabletinscribedwith"cloudforestBuddhisttemple",pennedbyEmperorKangxi,
4、whowasinspiredononeoccasionbythesightofthetempleinthemistandtrees,washungabovethedoor,producingasacredatmospherehere.Morenoticeableisacouplethungonthedoorreading:Letuswaitsittingonthethresholdofthetemple,foranotherpeakmayflyfromafar.Smilesappearwelcoming,forthebrookisgraduallywarminguptothesp
5、ringtime.Whentouristsadmirethecouplet,theycan'thelpbutgrin.InsidethehallisastatueoflaughingBuddhawhocan"endureeverythingunendurableintheworldandlaughateverylaughablepersonintheworld."FourheavenlykingsstandonbothsidesoftheBuddhaandWeituobehind.DaxiongbaodianHallDaxiongbaodianHallisthemainhall
6、ofLingyinTemple.Itis7roomswideand5roomsdeep,withonestory,doublelayereavesandpinnacleroof33.6metersinheight,famedasoneofChina'stallestone-storybuildings.AstatueofSakyamuni,carvedoutof24piecesofcamphorwood,stands24.8metershighinthehall.OnthebothsidesofSakyamunistand20saintsprotectingjusticeand
