4、QayyumTheimpactofbit-coal/rockinteractionduringthecuttingprocessinundergroundminesisgreatconcerntotheminingcommunityoftheworld.Rock/coalcuttingbearsdirectlyonrock/coaldustgenerationthatcauses“blacklung/silicosis”inminers.Ontheotherhand,rockcuttinggeneratesradianceofsparksthathaspotentialtocausefac
5、eignition.Bitwearaffectsproductivity,safetyandeconomy.Hundredsoffaceignitionsandmillionsofdollarsinproductivityandcompensationforrespirablerock/coaldustrelateddiseasesareattributedtothecuttingactionofcontinuousminers/shearers.Theseundesirableimpactscouldbeminimizedbyproperselectionofbittypes,bitde
6、sign,cuttingparametersofthecuttinghead,andamountofwaterandpositionofwaterjets.Thisthesisevaluatestheeffectsofbitgeometryinmultiplebits–rockinteraction,utilizinganautomatedrotarycoalcuttingsimulator(ARCCS)andsyntheticrock.Fivetypesofbit/cuttingtoolwithdifferentconeandtipgeometryweretestedagainstthe
7、syntheticrockof16”x14”x4”dimension.Therotationofthecuttingdrumwaskeptat100rpmandthecuttingdrumwasadvancedat0.14in/secofadvance.Cuttingforce,penetrationforce,rateofadvanceandrespirabledustweremeasuredduringthecutt
