2、discoveredtohavesimilarcharacteristics.ThisledRussianscientistDmitryMendeleyevtopredicttheexistenceoftheelementwiththeatomicnumber32,germanium,aswellasitscolour,weight,density,andmeltingpoint.ThepredictedelementshavesincebeendiscoveredandIwasgreatlymarvelledatthisfeatamongstmanyothers.
3、MyinterestinchemistryhasbeenfurtherstimulatedasIhavecontinuedtolearnmoreaboutthecharacteristicsoftheindividualelements,thenatureoftheiratoms,andhowtheyformfamiliarchemicalcompoundsthatareparticularlycriticaltotheexistenceoflifeandthepracticeofmedicine.ArrivingatthedecisiontostudyApplie
4、dChemistrytookmequitesometime.ThiswasbecauseIwasdeterminedtofindoutwheremyinterestsreallylieasIexcelledinmostofmySciencesubjects.However,IknewthatIloveexperimentinginChemistryandalsothatitisoneofmyfavouritesubjects.Idutifullyattendedanumberofcareersessionsandopendaysforsciencesubjectsa
5、tvariousuniversities,andtheonesfocussingonChemistryleftalastingimpressiononme.Also,Itooktimetovisitoneortwocommercialchemistry-orientedlaboratoriesinmyareatotalkwiththechemiststhere.Theirexperienceshavereinforcedmyloveforthesubject.Theyhelpedmetounderstandthewidevarietyofcareersavailab
6、leforagraduatewithagoodknowledgeofChemistry,i.e.research,pharmaceuticals,andevenenvironmentalmanagement.Theprospectofacareerinresearchandpharmaceuticalsisofgreatinteresttome.Atthispoint,IwasfinallyconvincedthatstudiesinChemistryandacareerinresearchinthesamesubjectiswhatIwantedtopursue,
