3、etictrappingofatomicchromiumandthemagnetictrappingofmolecularcalciummonohydride.Ex-perimentalworkwithmolecularvanadiummonoxidewillalsobediscussed.Buildingonpreviousworktrappingatomiceuropium,thecalciummonohydrideexperimentwasasuccessfuldemonstrationofthefeas

4、ibilityofmagneticallytrappinganeutralmolecule.Westudiedthedynamicsofourmolecularcoolingandtrappingtechniques.Inaddition,coldmolecule-atominteractionswereexploredintheCaH–Hesystematsub-Kelvintemperatures.VOwasemployedinourfirstattempt,whichfailed,tomagneticall

5、ytrapamolecule.Thereasonsfortheexperiment’sfailurewereinvestigated,andvariouspropertiesofVOmeasuredatlowtemperatures.ThechromiumexperimentwasdesignedtocooltrappedchromiumatomswiththegoalofcreatingacoexistingBose-EinsteincondensateanddegenerateFermigas.Theexp

6、erimentalplanwastousebuffer-gasloadingtomagneticallytraplargenumbersoffermionandbosonisotopesofchromium,andthenuseevaporativecoolingtoincreasethephasespacedensityuntildegeneracywasreached.Althoughwehavenotyetreachedquantumdegeneracy,wewereabletotrapandevapora
