4、elopment.Itis,infact,aparishof2halvesbeingbisectedbytheM1andtheincreasinglybusyNarboroughRoad.TheelectoralwardisEnderby/StJohnbutpartoftheparishisalsointheelectoralwardofthePastures.TheelectoraldivisionisEnderbyMeridian.HISTORICALSETTINGthEnderbyvillageisa9centuryScandinaviansettlementand

5、isrecordedintheDomesdaybook(1086)ashavingamill(watermill)andasubstantialamountofthwoodland.Untilrecentlythe19centurymillbuildingwasstillstandingandcouldbefoundbythepublicfootpathtoWhetstoneatthebottomoftheAbbeyRoadchildren’splayareaandjustbeforethemedievalpackhorsebridge–stillinexistence.

6、Itisworthnotingthatthereisstillasignificantareaofwoodlandinandaroundtheparish.ththUntilthe18and19centuryEnderbywaspredominantlyagriculturalbutthewithadventofindustrialisationframeworkknittingandthequarryingofgraniteforroadstoneandbuildingmaterialcametobemoreimportantsourcesofthemployment.

7、Towardstheendofthe19centurytheCo-operativemovementtookholdproducingaBootandShoefactory(theCivicCentre),aBakery,aDairy,aBank,variousretailoutletsandassociatedhousing.Manyofthesebuildingsstillformthefabricofthecentreofthevillagewhilstnowhavinglargelydifferentfunctions
