3、linear,repetitiveorcumulative,sloworfast,measuredorexperienced,shortorlong.Duringthelastyearsaseriesofnewtimeshaveemergedduetoglobalization,technologicalinnovationandclimatechange,e.g.theinstantaneityofdigitalcommunication,themanytimescalesofCO2emissionsa
4、ndtemperatureriseandthecollapseoftheideaofunilinearglobalprogress.Timehasbecomeafieldofstruggle,politicalstruggle,inwhichscientificconceptsandculturalprejudices,ortheotherwayaround,havebecometoolsandweapons.Hence,itishightimethattheplurality,or,assomepref
5、er,theplenitudeormultitude,oftimesismadethetopicofscholarlyinterestandinvestigationacrossdisciplinaryborders.Thegoalofthisconference,hostedbytheinterdisciplinaryresearchprogramKULTRANSattheUniversityofOslo,istoopenadialoguebetweendisciplinesandfields,such
6、ashistory,anthropology,mediastudies,sociology,STS,biology,geology,philosophy,literatureandothersontheemergences,conflicts,andhierarchiesofdifferenttimesinpast,presentandfuture.BackgroundForalongtimehumanitiesandsocialscienceshavebeendeeplyconcernedtounder
7、standhowtemporalityworksinthemodernera.Ontheonehandtheyhaveproducedmacro-theoreticalargumentstoexplainwhathashappenedtotemporalityanditsorderswiththeonsetofmodernity.Forinstance,PaulViriliohaswrittenextensivelyaboutalong-tendencytoward“acceleration”ofsoci
