2、pervisionbyagroupoffourseniorstudentsintheDepartmentofEngineeringScienceatTrinityUniversity.Theobjectiveoftheprojectwastodevelopatemperaturecontrolsystemforanair-filledchamber.Thesystemwastoallowentryofadesiredchambertemperatureinaprescribedrangeandtoexhibitovershoot

3、andsteady-statetemperatureerroroflessthan1degreeKelvinintheactualchambertemperaturestepresponse.Thedetailsofthedesigndevelopedbythisgroupofstudents,basedonaMotorolaMC68HC05familymicrocontroller,aredescribed.Thepedagogicalvalueoftheproblemisalsodiscussedthroughadescri

5、ldapplication.AprototypeofamicroscopeslidedryerhadbeendevelopedaroundanOmegaTMmodelCN-390temperaturecontroller,andtheobjectivewastodevelopacustomtemperaturecontrolsystemtoreplacetheOmegasystem.Themotivationwasthatacustomcontrollertargetedspecificallyfortheapplication

6、shouldbeabletoachievethesamefunctionalityatamuchlowercost,astheOmegasystemisunnecessarilyversatileandequippedtohandleawidevarietyofapplications.ThemechanicallayoutoftheslidedryerprototypeisshowninFigure1.Themainelementofthedryerisalarge,insulated,air-filledchamberinw
