4、comparisonwiththeindustrialmanipulators,thetaskofbuildinganadaptable,autonomouswalkingmachineismoredifficult.Walkingmachineshavemoreactivedegreesoffreedom(DOF)thanindustrialrobots.Toenlargethework-spaceoftheleg-end,andthusenhancethemachine’sabilitytoadapttotheterrain,eachlegshouldhaveatleastthre

5、eDOF,whichresultsinatotalof12DOFforaquadrupedor18DOFforahexapod.Allthosejointsmustbecontrolledadequatelyinrealtime.Thisalsomeansthatthehardwareandsoftwaresystemsmustmeetmorecriticalrequirementsthanthoseformulatedforindustrialrobotcontrollers.Moreover,fullyautonomousvehiclesuseonlyon-boardcontrol

6、lersandsothosecontrollershavetobeminiaturizedtoanutmostextent.Thereisnosuchrequirementinthecaseofnonmobilecontrollersofmanipulators.Theoreticalproblemsthatmustbesolvedarenumerous.Fromanoverviewofthepublicationsconcerningthesubjectofmultileggedwalkingmachinesitcanbenoticedthatthemainattentionispa
