1、Lesson10SplitsThemoulddesignerisfrequentlyconfrontedwithacomponentdesignthatincorporatesarecessorprojectionwhichpreventsthesimpleremovalofthemoldingfromthemould.Themoulddesignforthistypeofcomponentisinevitablymorecomplexthanfortheinlineofdrawcomponent,asitnecessitatestheremov

2、alofthatpartoftheimpressionwhichformstheundercutpriortoejection①.Thesplitscanbeincorporatedinthemoulddesigninseveralways.Thedesignerconsidersmorecomplexsystemswherethesplitsareretainedonthemouldplateandactuatedautomatically.Therearetwobasicdesigns:slidingandangled-liftsplits.

3、Inbothdesignstherearemovingpartsanditisnecessarytoarrangefor:(i)guidingthesplitsinthedesireddirection;(ii)actuatingthesplits;(iii)securelylockingthesplitsinpositionpriortothematerialbeinginjectionintothemould②.SlidingsplitsInthisdesign,thesplitsaremountedinguidesonaflatmouldp

4、lateandtheyareactuatedinoneplanebymechanicalorhydraulicmeans.Thesplitsarepositivelylockedintheirclosedpositionbyheelswhichprojectfromtheothermouldhalf.Thevariousmethodswhichcanbeusedtoactuatethesplitsinrelationtothemouldplateconsistoffingercam(seeFigure10-1(a)),dog-legcam(see

5、Figure10-1(b)),camtrack,compressionspringandhydraulic.Thebasicoperationwithcamactuationisasfollows.Asthemouldisopened,thecamsattachedtothefixedmouldhalfcausethesplitstoslideacrossthemovingmouldplate.Figure10-1TypesofslidingsplitsAngled-liftsplitsInthisdesignthesplitsaremounte

6、dinachase-bolsterwhichformspartofthemovinghalfofthemould.Thesplits(seeFigure10-2)arecausedtomoveoutwithanangularmotion,theoutwardcomponentofwhichrelievestheundercutportionofthemolding.Thesplitsarenormallyactuatedbytheejectorsystem.Thisshowsthemovinghalfofanangled-liftsplitmou

7、ldforproducingaspool.Itwillbenotedfromthisillustrationthattheguidingoftheangled-liftisnotascriticalasforguidingtheslidingsplits.Thealignmentofthesplits,whenclosed,isaccomplishedbytheirbeingseatedinthechase-bolster.Themainrequirementoftheguidingsystemisthatthesplitmustberestra
