3、edamageanddestruction.SomeplacesinWenzhousuffersfromtyphoonsverymuch.Andeverysummer,peoplefromtheseplaceshavetobereadytoagainsttyphoons’attacks.historyIthasahistorywhichgoesbacktoabout2000BC.Atthattime,Wenzhouwasfamousforitspotteryproduction.Inthe2ndcenturyBCitw
4、ascalledtheKingdomofDong'ou.UndertheTangDynasty,itwaspromotedtoprefecturestatusandgivenitscurrentnameinAD675.ThenameWenzhouwasformedfromthenearbyWenqiaoMountains(温峤岭)andtheadditionofthe-zhou"prefecture"suffix.Throughoutitshistory,Wenzhou'straditionaleconomicrole
5、hasbeenasaportgivingaccesstothemountainousinteriorofsouthernZhejiangProvince.In1876Wenzhouwasopenedtotheforeignteatrade,butnoforeignsettlementwaseverestablishedthere.Between1937and1942,duringtheSecondSino-JapaneseWar,Wenzhouachievedimportanceasoneofthefewportsst
6、illunderChinesecontrol.Itdeclinedinthelateryearsofthewar,butbegantorecoveraftercoastaltradealongtheZhejiangcoastwasre-establishedin1955.languageWenzhounativesspeakWuChinese,whichisthespokenlanguageofthepeoplefromHangzhou,Suzhou,andShanghai.However,geographicisol
7、ationandtheimmigrationofSouthernMinChinesespeakersfromnearbyFujianProvincehavecausedWenzhou'sspokenlanguagetoevolveintoadialectthatisamixtureofvariousdialects.Asaresult,peoplefromalloverChina,includingthosewhofromotherregionsofZhejiangandFujianhavetroubleunderst
