2、gnofMarinas'detailsappropriatedesignandengineeringstandardsformarinasinQueensland.However,giventheWorldHeritagestatusoftheGBRMP,andthesensitivityofmarineecosystemsinthePark,engineeringanddesigncriteriawhichmaymeetthesestandardsmaystillhaveunacceptableenvironmentalco
3、nsequencesintheMarinePark.Subsequently,insomesituationsandenvironmentsthedesigner'sjobmayrequirestricter,novelormore'environmentallyfriendly'alternativeswhichminimiseeffectsonthePark,asmuchaspossible.Itshouldbestatedherethattheguidelinesoutlinedinthissectionareinnow
4、ayprescriptiveormandatorybylawandcompliancewiththeguidelinesdoesnotnecessarilyguaranteetheacceptabilityofadevelopment.ThefollowingdesignnotesareincludedasahelpfulguidetodevelopersasmanyspecificapprovalsaretheresponsibilityofStateandCommonwealthauthoritiesapartfromGB
5、RMPA.Theyhavebeenincludedhoweverbecauseevenifthemarinadesign,constructionandopera~.ionareinaccordancewiththesestandards,thereisstillpotentialforimpactonthemarineenvironment.Marinadevelopmentsneedtobejudgedonacase-to-casebasis.However,itishopedthatmoreknowledgeofthee
6、nvironmentalimplicationsofengineeringanddesignrecommendationsasspelledoutintheseguidelines,willassistdesigners,developersandoperatorsachievesound,economicalmarinadevelopmentswithacceptableenvironmentalimpacts.Thelayoutofmarinalandfacilitiesisusuallydeterminedbytheph
7、ysicalconstraintsoftheparticularlocationandtheneedtoenableefficientmaterialandactivityflowpaths.Itisrecommendedthatalandtowaterarearatioofbetween50:50and40:60beadoptedforpreliminaryplanningofamarinadevelopment,dependingontheextentofshore-basedfacilitiestobeprovided.
