2、poseofthispaperistodescribeexperimentalandanalyticalresearchonheatstraighteningasappliedtoplatesandtopresentrelatedengineeringcriteriaforitsuse・Anexperimentalprogramwasconductedtoevaluatetheresponseofplatestoheatstraighteningandtoidentifyimportantparametersinfluencingbehavior.Over300heat

3、swereappliedtoavarietyofplates.Theprimaryfactorsinfluencingstraighteningweretheangleoftheveeheat,steeltemperatureduringheating,andexternalrestrainingforces.Theplasticrotationafterheatingwasdirectlyproportionaltotheseparameters.Toaidengineersinpredictingplatemovementsduringheatstraighteni

4、ng,asimplemathematicalformulawasdeveloped.Thisequationrelatestheaverageplasticrotationperveeheattoveeangle,steeltemperature,magnitudeofrestrainingforce,coefficientofthermalexpansion,andyieldstress.Theformulacompareswelltotheexperimentaldataandisthefirstsimpleformulaavailablethatincludest

5、heparametersofheatingtemperatureandmagnitudeofrestrainingforce.Theformofthisanalyticalapproachalsowilllenditselftowardextensions,includingthebehaviorofrolledshapes,axiallyloadedmembers,andcompositeandnoncompositegirders.INTRODUCTIONThefundamentalelementofanystructuralsteelshapeistheflatp
