3、dbythatoftheMinoanage.Fragmentsofwallpaintingshavebeenfoundinoraroundthepalaces(Pylos,Mycenae,Tiryns)andindomesticcontexts(Zygouries).Thelargestcompletewallpaintingdepictingthreefemalefigures,probablygoddesses,wasfoundintheso-calledCultCentreatMycenae. Variousthemesarerepresented:hunting,bullleaping
4、,battlescenes,processions,etc.Somescenesmaybepartofmythologicalnarratives,butifsotheirmeaningeludesus.ChunqiuandzhanguoItistypicalofthedevelopedShangstylethatallavailablespaceisdecorated,mostoftenwithstylizedformsofrealandimaginaryanimals.Themostcommonmotifisthetaotie,whichshowsamythologicalbeingpre
5、sentedfrontallyasthoughsquashedontoahorizontalplanetoformasymmetricaldesign.Theearlysignificanceoftaotieisnotclear,butmythsaboutitexistedaroundthelateZhouDynasty.Itwasconsideredtobevariouslyacovetousmanbanishedtoguardacornerofheavenagainstevilmonsters;oramonsterequippedwithonlyaheadwhichtriestodevou
6、rmenbuthurtsonlyitself.ThefunctionandappearanceofbronzeschangedgraduallyfromtheShangtotheZhou.Theyshiftedfrombeenusedinreligiousritestomorepracticalpurposes.BytheWarringStatesperiod,bronzevesselshadbecomeobjectsofaestheticenjoyment.Someweredecoratedwithsocialscenes,suchasfromabanquetorhunt;whilstoth
