2、cagents,HavinginmindthepurposesandprinciplesoftheCharteroftheUnitedNationsconcerningthesovereignequalityofStates,themaintenanceofinternationalpeaceandsecurity,andthepromotionoffriendlyrelationsamongnations,Believingthataninternationalconventionondiplomat

3、icintercourse,privilegesandimmunitieswouldcontributetothedevelopmentoffriendlyrelationsamongnations,irrespectiveoftheirdifferingconstitutionalandsocialsystems,Realizingthatthepurposeofsuchprivilegesandimmunitiesisnottobenefitindividualsbuttoensuretheeffi

4、cientperformanceofthefunctionsofdiplomaticmissionsasrepresentingStates,AffirmingthattherulesofcustomaryinternationallawshouldcontinuetogovernquestionsnotexpresslyregulatedbytheprovisionsofthepresentConvention,Haveagreedasfollows:ArticleIForthepurposeofth

5、epresentConvention,thefollowingexpressionsshallhavethemeaningshereunderassignedtothem:(a)The"headofthemission"isthepersonchargedbythesendingStatewiththedutyofactinginthatcapacity;(b)The"membersofthemission"aretheheadofthemissionandthemembersofthestaffoft

6、hemission;(c)The"membersofthestaffofthemission"arethemembersofthediplomaticstaff,oftheadministrativeandtechnicalstaffandoftheservicestaffofthemission;(d)The"membersofthediplomaticstaff"arethemembersofthestaffofthemissionhavingdiplomaticrank;(e)A"diplomat

7、icagent"istheheadofthemissionoramemberofthediplomaticstaffofthemission;(f)The"membersoftheadministrativeandtechnicalstaff"arethemembersofthestaffofthemissionemployedintheadministrativeandtechnicalserviceofthemission;(g)The"membersoftheservicestaff"arethe

8、membersofthestaffofthemissioninthedomesticserviceofthemission;(h)A"privateservant"isapersonwhoisinthedomesticserviceofamemberofthemissionandwhoisnotanemployeeofthesendingState;(i)The"premisesofthemission"arethebuildingsorp
