3、icanworksofpoetryofthattime.ThisisoneofthemostquotedworksofFreneau.Generallyspeaking,itisthebestofFreneau’spoems,andthebestpoemonnaturebeforetheappearanceoftheversesofWilliamCullenBryant,WilliamWordsworth,andRalphWaldoEmerson’sTheRhodora.Butunlikethoseearlywriterswhoturnedtolookforthemes
4、outsideAmerica,Freneaurootedhispoemonthispieceofland.Heisoneofthefewearlywriterswhoeulogizethecountry.BeforeFreneautherehadbeensomeAmericanpoetswho,however,wrotemostlyonthereligious5themeandeitherinstyleorstructurallytheyimitatedEnglishpoets.Freneau,thefirstAmerican-bornpoet,wasoneofthee
