2、redthemwiththecandidatesortheiraides.Theaudiencehastakenavowofsilence—noapplause,noreactionofanykindexceptrightnowwhenwewelcomePresidentBarackObamaandGovernorMittRomney.(Sustainedcheers,applause.)Gentlemen,yourcampaignshaveagreedtocertainrulesandtheyaresimple.Theyhaveaskedmetodividetheeveningi
3、ntosegments.I’llposeaquestionatthebeginningofeachsegment.Youwilleachhavetwominutestorespond,andthenwewillhaveageneraldiscussionuntilwemovetothenextsegment.Tonight’sdebate,asbothofyourknow,comesonthe50thanniversaryofthenightthatPresidentKennedytoldtheworldthattheSovietUnionhadinstallednuclearmi
4、ssilesinCuba—perhapstheclosestwe’veevercometonuclearwar.Anditisasoberingreminderthateverypresidentfacesatsomepointanunexpectedthreattoournationalsecurityfromabroad.Solet’sbegin.ThefirstsegmentisthechallengeofachangingMiddleEastandthenewfaceofterrorism.I’mgoingtoputthisintotwosegments,soyou’llh
