3、stressinrockcolumnswithpotentialflexuraltopplingfailurearedetermined.Then,theminimumfactorofsafetyforrockcolumnsarecomputedbymeansofprinciplesofsolidandfracturemechanics,independently.Next,anewequationisproposedtodeterminethelengthofcriticalcrackinsuchrockcolumns.Ithasbeenshownthatifthe
4、lengthofnaturalcrackissmallerthanthelengthofcriticalcrack,thentheresultbasedonsolidmechanicsapproachismoreappropriate;otherwise,theresultobtainedbasedontheprinciplesoffracturemechanicsismoreacceptable.Subsequently,forstabilizationoftheprescribedrockslopes,somenewanalyticalrelationshipsa
5、resuggestedfordeterminationthelengthanddiameteroftherequiredfullygroutedrockbolts.Finally,forquickdesignofrockslopesagainstflexuraltopplingfailure,agraphicalapproachalongwithsomedesigncurvesarepresentedbywhichanadmissibleinclinationofsuchrockslopesandorlengthofallrequiredfullygroutedroc
