2、languagelearning.OneofthegoalsofEnglishteachingistocultivatestudents9readingability.LexicalchunkapproachisfirstputforwardbyMichaelLewisin1970sanditwasappliedinlanguageeducationeversince1990s.Muchattentionhasbcenpaidtotheapplicationofthelexicalchunksapproachinforeignldnguageteachingandlearning

3、.Lexicalchunkapproach,asalanguageteachingtheory,emphasizesthewordblockasawholechunkintheprocessofteaching,andguidesthestudcntstoshifttheirattentionawayfromindividualwordstochunks,whichenablesstudentstohaveanovcral1structureofthepassage,thusdevelopingstudents9discourseabi1ityandgettingtheirrea

4、dingabilityimprovedasaresult-ThispaperintendstomakearesearchintheapplicationoflexicalchunktheoryintheEnglishlanguagereadingteachingatSeniorHighSchool,inordertofindout,first,whetherEnglishreadingteachingbasedonlexicalchunkscanenhancestudcnts9interestinloarningEnglish;second,whetherEnglishreadi

5、ngteachingbasedonlexicalchunkscanimprovestudents，readingability;third,whatdostudentsthinkofthelexicalchunkapproachappliedintheirreadingclass?Toseekanswerstothesequestions,theauthorconductedanempiricalstudyataseniorhighschool.Theresearchexperimentwasdoneintwoparallelclasses,withoneastheexperim

6、entclassandtheotherthecontrolclass.Furtherquestionnairesandinterviewswereemployedasinstrumentsinadditiontotests.Resultsofthecollecteddatafromthequestionnaireindicatedthatstudents"interestinECgotincreasedaftertheyreceivedtheteachingapproachoflexicalchunks.Furthermore,studentsreadingscoresalsog
