2、46,China)Abstract:Ruralsettlementsareplacesofhabitation，productionandthelivingforruralpeople,whichareef-fectedprofoundlybythenatureconditionandfactorsofruralsociety,economyandculture.Ruralsettlementgeography,asamainsubjectofruralgeography,focusesonitsstructuretype,distribut
3、ioncharacteristic,evo-lution,theenvironment(naturalandsocial)relationsaswellastransformationandreconstruction.Nowadays,ruralsettlementgeographyresearchisahotspot,especiallyinrecentyears.Theabroadresearchonruralset-tlementgeographyismorecomprehensive.Thispaper,basedonplentif
4、ulliterature,analysestheresearchcontentsofruralsettlementgeographyabroad.Anddividestheresearchhistoryintofourstages:embryonicstage,initialdevelopmentstage,expansionandchangestage,transitionandreconstructionstage.Thenweconcluderuralsettlementgeographyresearchcontentsystemabr
5、oadasfollows:(1)theimpactoffactorsofruralsettlementslayout;(2)thetypesandpatternsofruralsettlements;(3)theresearchofruralsettlementlanduse;(4)thelandscapestudyofruralsettlements;and(5)ecologicalresearchofruralsettlements.Onthebasesofthesesummarizations,wedescribetheresearch
6、anddevelopmenttrendsofthesubjectrecentlytoprovidetheoreticalandpracticalreferenceguidesfordomesticresearchers.Wearguethatruralsettlementge-ographyabroadispayingmoreattentiontostudyingonthesocializationandthereconstructionofruralsettle-ments.Asweallknow,theareaofourcountry's
7、ruralregionisbroadwiththenumerouspopulationandhugeruralsettlements.Thedomesticruralsettlementgeographyresearchstillneedstobestrengthened.WhiletheruralsettlementofChinahaschangedalotwiththedevelopmentofsocietyandeconomy,ruralsettlementge-ographyresearchshouldbepaidmoreattent
