1、4Two-dimensionalFaceRecognition4.1FeatureLocalizationBeforediscussingthemethodsofcomparingtwofacialimageswenowtakeabrieflookatsomeatthepreliminaryprocessesoffacialfeaturealignment.Thisprocesstypicallyconsistsoftwostages:facedetectionandeyelocalization.Dependingontheapplication,ifthepositionofth

2、efacewithintheimageisknownbeforehand(foracooperativesubjectinadooraccesssystemforexample)thenthefacedetectionstagecanoftenbeskipped,astheregionofinterestisalreadyknown.Therefore,wediscusseyelocalizationhere,withabriefdiscussionoffacedetectionintheliteraturereview.Theeyelocalizationmethodisusedt

3、oalignthe2Dfaceimagesofthevarioustestsetsusedthroughoutthissection.However,toensurethatallresultspresentedarerepresentativeofthefacerecognitionaccuracyandnotaproductoftheperformanceoftheeyelocalizationroutine,allimagealignmentsaremanuallycheckedandanyerrorscorrected,priortotestingandevaluation.
