2、eChile,Casilla306,Santiago,Chile.ABSTRACTInformationobtainedfromproductivityconsultingservicesprovidedtoasubstantialnumberofbuildingconstructionprojectsfrom1990to1994,hasbeenprocessedandorganizedwiththepurposeofstudyingthetypesofconstructionwasteinthiskindofconstruct
3、ionprojects.Fromtheresultsobtainedinthisstudy,thispaperpresents:1)aclassificationofconstructionwasteandtheirmaincauses,and2)statisticsofthefrequencyandrelativeimportanceofthesetypesofwaste.1IntroductionSincethebeginningofaconstructionjob,project/sitemanagementhastode
4、alwithmanyfactors-mostofthemcausedbytheirownactionsorinaction-thatnegativelyaffecttheconstructionprocess,producingdifferenttypesofwastethatcanconvertagood"tobe"projectintoabad"itwas"project.Inmostcases,constructionmanagersdonotknoworrecognizethefactorsthatproducewast
5、enorhavetheymeasurementsoftheirimportance.Itcanbesaidthatmostofthefactorsarenoteasilyvisible.Thus,theidentificationofthesefactorsandtheircauses,andthemeasurementoftheirimportanceisausefulinformationthatwouldallowmanagementtoactinadvancetoreducetheirnegativeeffects.Du
6、ringthelast5years,consultingserviceshavebeenprovidedbyaconsultinggroupattheDepartmentofConstructionEngineeringandManagementoftheCatholicUniversityofChile,tomorethan40constructionsitesthathavestartedprogramstoimprovetheirsiteperformance,mostofthemsuccessfully.Seventee
7、noftheseconstructionsiteswerehighrisebuildingconstructionprojectsandwereselectedforstudyingpurposes.Thisconsultingexperiencehasgeneratedagreatamountofinformationonwastedresourcesandtimeinbuildingconstructionprojects.Theinformationobtainedhasbeenprocessedtostudythetyp
