5、gherERCsthanotherfirms(Barthetal.,1999).However,similarpatternsofearningsincreasesacrossfirmsneednotsignalsimilarinformationbecauseearningsincreasescouldemanatefromdifferentcomponentsofearnings.Inashort-windoweventstudycontext,revenuesandexpenses,thetwomajorcomponentsofearnings
6、,havebeenshowntobedifferentiallyinformative(Ertimuretal.,2003).However,thevaluationeffectsofsustainedincreasesinearningsattainedthroughrevenueincreasesvis-a`-viscostreductionsarenotyetknown.Tounderstandtheseeffects,wepartitionfirmswithsustainedincreasesinearningsintotwogroups:f
