3、centre,freighttransport.IntroductionNowadays,wearewitnessingthedeepstructuralchangesinEurope.Globalizationprocessesdeterminenotonlytransportbutalsoallhumanactivities.TheobjectiveoftheEuropeCommission’sWhitePaper“Europeantransportpolicyfor2010:timetodecide”istorefocusEurope’stranspor
4、tpolicyonthedemandsandneedsofitscitizens.TheWhitePaperproposesmorethan60measurestomeetthischallenge.Thefirstofthesemeasuresisdesignedtoshiftthebalancebetweenmodesoftransportby2010,byrevitalizingtherailways,promotingmaritimeandinlandwaterwaytransportandlinkingupthedifferentmodesoftra
5、nsport.TheprincipalobjectiveoftheEU’sregionalpolicyistoeliminateregionaldisparitiesandtopromoteintegrationandsocialcohesion.TheUnionseekstousethepolicytohelpthelaggingregionstocatchup,restructuredecliningindustrialregions,diversifytheeconomiesofruralareaswithdecliningagricultureandr
6、evitalisedeclingneighborhoodsinthecities.TransportpolicyplaysamajorroleinstrengtheningtheeconomicandsocialcohesionoftheEuropeanUnion.Firstly,ithelpsreduceregionaldisparities,particularlybyimprovingaccesstoislandandperipheralregions.Italsohasabeneficialeffectonemployment,byencouragin
7、ginvestmentintransport10infrastructureandassistingworkers’mobility.ZilinaUniversitytogetherwiththeZilinaMunicipalityareinvolvedinsolvingobjectivesoftheinternationalREDETRALproject(RegionalDeve-lopmentandTransportLogistics–Europeanbestpracticeinthedevelopmentoflogisticsparks).Theproj
