3、ontainercargohandledthroughHongKongbyair(intermsofmetrictons)andbysea(intermsofthroughputinTEU)isoneofthehighestintheworld(HongKongMonthlyDigestStatistics,2003).ConsequenttoChina’saccessiontotheWorldTradeOrganization(WTO),thetradevolumebetweenHongKongandChi
4、naandothercountries,andhencetheassociatedphysicalproductflows,areexpectedtojumpconsiderably(Chou,2002).AsthecargovolumehandledthroughHongKongcontinuestogrow,itisnaturalforlogisticsserviceprovidersinHongKongtoseekserviceimprovementsinordertosatisfyfullytheri
5、singserviceneedsoftheircustomers.Asaresult,manylogisticsserviceprovidersinHongKonghavebeenexpandingtheirservicemenusandbroadeningthescopeoftheirservices(Lai&Cheng,2003).Theyhavealsobeenmakingeffortstoenhancetheirservicecapabilitybyinvestinginlogisticsfacili
6、tiesandequipment,suchasautomatedwarehouses,materialshandlingequipmentandlogisticsinformationsystems.TheiractionssuggestthatthemarketforlogisticsservicesinHongKongisverydynamicandthatimportantchangeswillcontinuetooccurincustomerexpectations,aswellasinthestra
7、tegyoftheserviceproviderstosatisfytherequirementsofthemarket.Asatypeoflogisticsserviceproviderspecializinginconsolidatingshipmentsfortransportascargoes,freightforwarders(FFs)inHongKongfacethechallengeofimprovingtheirservices.Theymustnotonlycontinuouslyimpro
