4、ganizationalpurposes”(Zmud1997).Wearguethatacquiringsuchknowledgeinvolvestwocomplementarybutdistinctparadigms,behavioralscienceanddesignscience(MarchandSmith1995).Thebehavioral-scienceparadigmhasitsrootsinnaturalscienceresearchmethods.Itseekstodevelopandjustifytheories(i.e.,prin
5、ciplesandlaws)thatexplainorpredictorganizationalandhumanphenomenasurroundingtheanalysis,design,implementation,management,anduseofinformationsystems.Suchtheoriesultimatelyinformresearchersandpractitionersoftheinteractionsamongpeople,technology,andorganizationsthatmustbemanagedifa
6、ninformationsystemistoachieveitsstatedpurpose,namelyimprovingtheeffectivenessandefficiencyofanorganization.Thesetheoriesimpactandareimpactedbydesigndecisionsmadewithrespecttothesystemdevelopmentmethodologyusedandthefunctionalcapabilities,informationcontents,andhumaninterfacesimp
7、lementedwithintheinformationsystem.Thedesign-scienceparadigmhasitsrootsinengineeringandthesciencesoftheartificial(Simon1996).Itisfundamentallyaproblem-solvingparadigm.Itseekstocreateinnovationsthatdefinetheideas,practices,technicalcapabilities,andproductsthroughwhichtheanalysis,
