1、METHOD1040TESTMETHODFOROXIDIZINGSOLIDS1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Thismethodcanbeusedtoevaluatetherelativeoxidizinghazardposedbyasolidwaste.Themethodisbasedona"conicalpile-typeburningtestmethod"adaptedfromtheUnitedNationsregulationsandclassificationproceduresfortheinternationaltranspo
2、rtationofdangerousgoods.1.2Thismethodprovidesaqualitativemeanstomeasurethepotentialofasolidwastetoincreasetheburningrateorburningintensityofacombustiblesubstance,specificallyfibrouscellulose.Theburningratesfor1:1and4:1waste:cellulosemixtures(w/w)arecomparedtotheburningratesfor3:7,2
3、:3,and3:2potassiumbromate:cellulosemixtures.Potassiumbromateisusedasthereferenceoxidizingstandard.Thethreemixingratiosofpotassiumbromateandcelluloseprovidearangeofburningtimesbywhichthewasteisclassified.The3:7mixtureratioprovidesthelongestburningtime,the3:2mixtureratioprovidesthesh
4、ortestburningtime,andthe2:3mixtureratioprovidesanintermediateburningtime.Theburningtimesforthepotassiumbromate:cellulosemixturesarecorrelatedtotheirrelativeoxidizingstrengths,i.e.,theshortertheburningtime,thegreatertherelativeoxidizingstrength.1.3.Thistestprocedureissuitableforasse
5、ssingtherelativeoxidizinghazardofsolidsubstances,includingsolids,granularmaterials,andothermaterialsthatcanbeformedintoaconicalpileasdescribedinSec.11.2.4.Thisprocedureisnotappropriateforevaluatingoxidizingliquids.Thismethodmaybeusedtomeetcertainregulatoryapplications,butisnotrequi
